Contingency planning

There are times when your computer system is going to fail.

A few examples include:

  • the drives may fail,
  • the power may be turned off
  • you may install software that stops your computer or important software to stop running
  • the licence for your software may have expired
  • you may buy a new computer and it is taking longer than expected o get up and running

I am sure you can add others.

If your business depends upon your computer system, then you need to plan before hand as to what you are going to do.

You may not have someone (that will be me in the case of Mamba Diagnostics) immediately available to help.

In the case of Mambas Diagnostics, below are some things you can do before hand that may assist in saving a few stressful moments.

  • Ensure that your database backups and the reports are also backed up. It is not much use having your backups on a computer that is not working.
  • A trial version of Mamba Diagnostics is available from this website. Even better, install Mamba Diagnostics on another machine and delete all clients from the database before there is a problem. This ensures that all the changes that you have made to your address, comments and templates are preserved.
  • The ability to delete all your patients is available since version 2.46. Only users logged on as administrators can use this feature.
  • You can have many different Mamba Diagnostics databases on one machine. One can be your patient database, another your unregistered backup database for emergencies and another a test database so you can trial different ideas.
  • Ensure that test results and your report is produced as soon as practical. Unlike most software, Mamba Diagnostics allows you to access clients and results already in the system after the licence has expired.
  • You can modify or add results to an existing episode after the licence has expired. You can also print reports for existing episodes.
  • There are other people using the software. If you make arrangements beforehand, they may be able to assist in entering your results and producing a report in an emergency.
  • There is information on the website regarding backing up and restoring. A separate program (EDB Backup Manager)is available from the website to restore databases and alter the database location.

Changing databases

You can use the program EDB Backup Manager to create, backup and restore databases.

You can have a number of different Mamba Diagnostic databases. For example, you may have a test database as well as your normal client database.
